The valley is widest at Katrian, halfway between Kulu and Manli and rising above it here is the majestic Baragarh peak (3255m.) Nagar, which was the capital of Kulu for 1400 years, is five Km. from Katrian. It commands spectacular views of the valley. These can also be enjoyed from the 16-century castle built by Raja Sidh Singh, which is now a hotel. The Roerich gallery is close above the castle; it is an elegan mansion where the works of the famous Russian painter Nicolas Roerich who lived there are displayed. Interesting temples around Nagar include the grey sand stone Gaurishankar temple, the Vishnu temple and the Pagoda shaped shrine of Tripura sundri.
