770m above sea level and 140 km from Bangalore, Mysore, capital of the erstwhile princely state of that name, is famous for its jasmine, known locally as Mysore Mallige whose fragrance has been widely celebrated in song. Mysore is just as famous for its silk and sandalwood, its palaces and its leisurely way of life, It is also famous for incense production. 

Its Indo-Saracenic palace of the Maharaja is the most outstanding building here which attracts people in large number from all over the country.

Mysore Palace 
Mysore Palace, one is the capital, seat of power of the ruling Wodeyars, is one of the largest of its kind in India. And on e of the most splendid this indo – Saracenic building has among other thing, stained glass chamber ceiling, a carved silver door, a solid gold throne and a gallery of exquisite paintings. 

St. Philomena's Cathedral 
St. Philomena's Cathedral in the gothic style, is one of the largest cathedral, in the country and has beautiful stained glass windows. 

Somnathpur Temple 
Somnathpur Temple 35 km, built by the renowned architect, Jakanachari. Around its exterior base are portrayed in sequence the main incidents from the Rayamana and Mahabharata, India's great epics. 

Chamundi Hills 
Chamundi Hills 13 km of Mysore city half way up is the Nandi bull, a 4.8 meter monolith. Right on top is the 2000 year old Chamundeshwari Temple, dedicated to the pattern goddess of the royal family. 19 km north west is the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam and Vrindaban Garden, the ornamental terraced garden, the swirling fountains, the colourfull fary lights, Vrinaban Gardens attract 1000 of visitors, a especially to its "dancing musical fountains". 

Sravanabelgola 
Sravanabelgola 99 km has the 1000 year old colossal statue 57 feet tall of the hermit Gomateswara. 

Srirangapatnem 
Srirangapatnem, 14 km north-east of Mysore on the Bangalore-Mysore highway is this Island fortress that was once the capital of the warrior – king Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, the Tiger of Mysore. 

Darya Daulat
 
Tipu's summer palace, Darya Daulat, built in 1784, was his favourite retreat. Now a museum, it tells eloquently of his valor and his loosing battle against the British. It has ornate and beautiful frescos. 

Tipu's Fort 
Tipu's Fort at Srirangapatnem holds within it a mosque and the Ranganathaswamy temple. Outside the fort is the Gumbaz, with tiger's tomb, with doors of Ebony in laid with ivory. 

Bandipur National Park and Tiger Reserve 
Bandipur National Park and Tiger Reserve 80 km south, this is one of the 15 national park selected across the country for project tiger, a scheme launched in 1973 by the World Wild Fund for nature to save the tiger. The sanctuary can be visited either on elephant back or by jeeps and open trucks. The best season is January - June and September - October. 

Cauvery Fishing Camp 
Cauvery Fishing Camp 82 km away, at the Bimashewari, a paradise for anglers with the rich masheer found in abundance. The fish has to be returned to the river by the angler. This camp is also accessible from Bangalore (100 km). 

Nagarhole National Park 
Nagarhole National Park 96 km north (From wildlife Book) Kabini River Lodge 80 kn from Mysore, is where you can take a coracle (leaf boat) ride in the river, bird watch in the Korapur Forest and stay in the hunting lodges where kings and Viceroys once stayed.
