Like most of the adventure sports, British Raj
also has brought Skiing to India. To escape from hot summers, they established number of hill stations closer to capital.
For their recreational activities and to quench the thirst of adventure, they trekked through Himalayas, climbed its peaks and skied its slopes some of which are world class. During the passage of time affluent Indians begin to participate in adventure sports including skiing.
By now the skiing has become a popular winter sport in the hill stations of north India and some of the resorts are fully equipped with modern world-class facilities.
Some of the popular skiing resorts are Auli in Garhwal, Gulmarg in Kashmir, Narkand, Kufri, Kullu-Manali, Chamba, in Himalachal Pradesh. Joshimath, a pilgrim center in the Garhwal Himalayas, is being developed as a major skiing resort.
